This all leather guitar 2 1/2" wide strap has an "onion" pattern of stitching in shades of blues and teals down its length between the slots and peg hole, and serpentine stitch in a dark blue only around the slots.
It is made with a metallic blue finish film on thin & firm cowhide, which is glued and edge stitched onto smooth black cowhide. Then the primary "onion" pattern is outlined with max of 2" wide at the logo end (just past the shoulder of a wearer) and narrows to 1 1/4" at the front peg hole, where the strap itself tapers down to about 1 3/4" wide.
There are 8 "onions" that are all hand controlled, though are machine stitched--only an organic "computer" controlling the hands moving the strap under my single needle sewing machine. So each color & row is added separately.
There are 7 rows--from the outside in, the first, third and fifth are dark blue, the second, fourth, and seventh are teal, and the sixth is very light teal, which is not used in the onion closest to the front peg hole.
I drafted the stitching pattern, which only revealed the traditional onion style as each row was applied--akin to exposing the layers of an onion. All stitching was done free-hand, and does not have the perfection of a computerized machine, but the uniqueness you can only find with hand made goods.
This strap I've opted to cover the entire main strap with the blue cowhide, so it is quite firm overall, but I did not cover the 1" wide adjustment strap, but it's just the thick black cowhide as used for the base, so it can still fit thru the slots and supple enough to weave through the slot holes, but even on its own this base leather works for even solid body instruments. And I have laser etched my Acoustic Needle brand logo onto the adjustment strap. The edges are trimmed with a small radius bevel tool to soften the look. The hide is through-dyed, so it is consistent color on the edges as on its softer split underside.
The overall length of this strap as shown is adjustable from about 48" to 58" at 1" intervals. The main strap is about 42" long, and the 11 slots are spaced from about 29" to 40" from the front peg hole. The adjustment strap is 18" from slot to its rear peg hole when installed. (I refer to the front peg hole being on the main strap, and the rear is the adjustment slot).
The holes for the pegs are punched at 5/16" in the front, and 3/8" in the back, and a small slit ends with a small hole at the top of the slit to prevent tears & the "keyhole" effect makes the strap easier to install & remove, and can accommodate most pegs. The firm leather and stitching around the front peg hole keeps strap to remain secured once it's fitted fully in place.
This design means the strap is only leather, and there is no metal or plastic hardware that could annoy you while you're playing, or your knock into you instrument while it's being moved or stored.
I can also provide leather "laces" if you prefer to tie the strap to the neck of the guitar, rather than using a front peg. And if you have a specific peg size you need to fit, please let me know. There is no extra charge for enlarging the peg holes or for the ties when you order the strap, but please note in the order if you want any of those changes.
